Head of Internal Audit – Dodoma (HQ)

Descriptions

Responsible to the Board of Directors (the Board) for the internal auditing and reviewing of all functions performed by the Bank with key responsibility to develop long term and strategic audit assurance framework for the bank to ensure operational sustainability and long-term strategic resilience in the Bank. Moreover, the role requires maintenance and updates auditing framework, policies and procedures as directed by the Board and regulatory agencies and reports to the Management and the Board results of the audits conducted.

Responsibilities

  • Develop long term and strategic assurance plan and framework in the Bank to deliver operational sustainability and resilience
  • Develop long term combined assurance strategies in collaboration with other lines of defence.
  • Development strategic audit governance framework and management plan to respond to disruptive market forces and regulatory guidelines and policy changes.
  • Work with other line of defences to enforce and deliver regulatory and internal controls adequacy and compliance culture within the Bank
  • Develop a flexible annual audit plan using an appropriate risk-based methodology, including also risks or control concerns identified by management, and submit that plan to the Board Audit Committee for review and approval as well as periodic updates.
  • Implement the annual audit plan, as approved, including as appropriate any special tasks or projects requested by Management and the Board Audit Committee.
  • Issue periodic reports to Management summarizing the results of audit activities
  • Issue quarterly reports to the Board Audit Committee summarizing results of audit activities. Reports to the Board Audit Committee should include management responses on corrective action taken or to be taken to address the audit findings or recommendations.
  • Issue annual report to Management, Board Audit Committee and Central Bank of Tanzania summarising major findings during the year.
  • Keep the Board Audit Committee informed of emerging trends and successful practices in internal auditing.
  • Participate in the development of Audit Charter and audit programs and ensure that they aligned with statutory requirements and market best practice
  • Assist in the investigation of significant suspected fraudulent activities within the bank and notify Management and Board Audit Committee of the results.
  • Follow-up on clearance of audit issues while ensuring that all significant findings remain open until cleared.
  • Provide necessary assistance during statutory/external audits
  • Prepare and control the Unit budget
  • Maintain a professional audit staff with sufficient knowledge, skills, experience, and professional certifications to meet the requirements of the Audit Charter.
  • Attend Committee and Board Meetings of the Bank.

Other Responsibilities

  • Prepare presentations for Management/ Board
  • Attend Management Meetings
  • Attending/ Resolving user problems relating to access of Team Mate Audit Management System
  • Perform other tasks requested by Management or directed by the Board

Requirements

  • A competent candidate with a minimum of 5 Years’ working experience in the field of banking, finance, financial audit or accounting.
